SFD Week 4: Using light edits as a launching pad for more writing
Four weeks and just about 30 days into this book writing and the draft has really taken shape. On Sunday, I had officially drafted the main sections of the book having lived and written through the 12 signs as the moon moved through them.
I’m really appreciating the spaciousness that writing with the moon is providing. Since the moon visits each sign for a little over two days, I can write on both those days or just one. Sometimes, I end up writing every other day, which gives me some space from the material to let it marinate. Then, when I jump back in, it feels fresh.
A lot of writing advice says, “You need to write every day!”
Which you might know I think is BS.
What about every other day?
Choose a writing schedule that works for you. You’ll know if it’s working for you if you feel satisfied after a writing session and on the days you’re not writing, you feel okay with that.
As a reminder, the book’s about:
Writing with the moon or nature’s rhythms. The actual title is TBD. I think it will be a guidebook to keep close as you create or reestablish a writing habit.
I always recommend to my coaching clients that they write about what they know. I’ve been teaching my writing community and clients how to find writing flow with their menstrual cycles (if they have one) or the moon for a few years. Having hosted 29-day writing challenges a handful of times, the writing is coming easily.
Week 4 Writing Numbers:

Today, I’ll show you behind the scenes of the latest SFDs (surrendered first drafts), and how I’m “cutting in” lightly with super quick edits and using that as a launching pad for writing.
The format I’ll follow for each section is taking shape, so I know what I need to add.
I also cover…
When I’ll start editing, and my rationale behind the decision
Thoughts on why staying out of my head is essential
What you can expect to see when I start editing — which is A LOT more work and calls for much more focus than the SFD
