Show Your Work Wednesday: Book Writing Week 9
🌕 Book birthdays, full moon illuminations, and thinking (dreaming big)
Happy Wednesday (and almost full moon).
So much has been illuminated in my book over the past week. I was focused on doing the same kind of edits for two weeks, so to spare you the monotonous details, I’m summarizing the book writing for the past two weeks.
I’m also sharing about book marketing. Now, know that marketing can sometimes be a distraction when you’re in your book drafting stage.
BUT (and it’s a big but), I’m a business owner, and I’ve seen first-hand evidence that writing a book is good for business. Even if your book isn’t related to your business.
Take Unfussy Life, for example, my 2021-published memoir. The words in that book have nothing to do with my ghostwriting business or writing community — other than the fact that I worked on it during writing community sessions, but writing a book does a bunch of amazing things for your business — directly and indirectly:
No matter your business, writing a book shows that you’re the kind of person who writes books. That’s a hefty dose of credibility, my friend. With most book ideas never reaching readers’ hands, writing a book is a big fucking deal. It shows that YOU greet challenges and take them head-on. That same energy applied to what you sell — is rocket fuel.
It gives you a massive sense of accomplishment. See doing challenging things above 👆. If you can write a book, then you can take on business and life challenges.
Boosts your business visibility. Writing a book opens doors — for media, podcast interviews, collaborations, guest writing spots, magazine and news outlet articles, and workshops. The opportunities are limitless. When your book is out there, it’s attached to you.
Helps you write more books. I know. If you’re only thinking of writing your first book, the idea of writing many might make your mind swirl. The cool part of writing a book is that doing so gives you the mental container to write more books. I needed to write Unfussy Life to be able to write Intuitive Writing. And i needed to write Intuitive Writing to write the book I’m working on right now.
